Sony’s Vaio TP Home Theater PC

As the fusion of the Internet and television continues to evolve, new hardware has been popping up in the living room. With its circular design, Sony’s Vaio TP Home Theater PC stands out on a home entertainment shelf full of typical black and silver boxes — and brings a Blu-ray disc player, HDTV recorder and a full Windows Vista Home Premium system into the mix.

Available next month for about $3,000, this Vaio comes with 4 gigabytes of memory, a 500-gigabyte hard drive and an Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 processor. The round, black PC connects to a widescreen TV with a high-definition multimedia interface, or H.D.M.I., cable and includes a wireless keyboard for using the Web from across the room.

The PC comes with a pair of CableCARD-compatible tuners that let you record two high-definition programs at once, and its hard drive holds up to 50 hours of high-definition recordings. If the price tag seems out of reach, there’s also a white model with a single TV tuner for $1,600

Automotive X-prize details revealed

For a competition that still hasn’t officially launched, the Automotive X-Prize has certainly been doing a pretty good job of making itself known, and we’ve now got yet more details on it courtesy of the folks at CNET. First up, it seems that the X-Prize Foundation will finally get official with the competition “sometime next year,” although likely not before the New York Auto Show in the spring. Before that, however, the Foundation will be showing off some or all of the 43 contenders currently signed up at the Detroit Auto Show in January including, among others, Aptera’s 300 mile-per-gallon car pictured above. What’s more, given that the competition only seeks to find a car that gets 100 miles to the gallon, it would seem that Aptera would have a considerable advantage — assuming it can actually back up its claims, that is. Model No : Sony Ericsson MBW-100 Bluetooth watch The Bluetooth-equipped watch allows its user to check out who is calling on a tiny OLED-display (96×16 pixels)and at that supports only single profile GAP (plus music player management tools). Apart from that the watch boasts the silent alert, which turns out to be quite handy on incoming calls, as well as messages (though the MBW-100s display wont scroll their text) There are three buttons mounted on the casing, namely two big ones on each side of the clock winder and the clock winder itself, since it can be pressed as well. The analogue watch face with two hands tops the display that stays inactive unless an event occurs. It would seem that the black trim is more appealing visually, though its not the whole truth the steel trim has its trumps as well, since it has somewhat fresh looks. The gadget comes with a special charging cable, whose front end attaches to the watch with a clip, while the other one is a socket for plugging in standard charger for Sony Ericssons handsets.
